It is one of the most popular walks in Buenos Aires since nearly a century. The people go to the Costanera to ride on a bicycle, to run, or to spend the day with their families.

In 1918 the municipal resort was opened at the costanera, and its beaches became into the most popular from the Río de la Plata. Many restaurants and show halls were opened in the 40's and the 50's, where the "tangueros" and comedy actors, such as Aníbal Troilo or José "Pepitito" Marrone used to perform at night. Since 1960 the walk lost significance, mostly because of the river contamination, which caused the prohibition to bath in its waters.
In the 90's and in 2000, the costanera and the boulevards parks were restored.

Many people visit the costanera during day and night, especially on weekends. Many "carritos" are in its wide sidewalks. (food stands specialized in pork meat sandwiches.)
