River Plate is one of most popular football clubs in the country together with his rival, Boca Juniors. This stadium is popularly known as "El Monumental." It was one of the first big stadiums in South America.

The basic stone was placed in 1935 in lands that in that period caused controversy because of its closeness to the river and the flood risk. with a feating capacity of 70,000.    Consecutive improvements extended it until its current feating capacity of 76,609, the biggest of all the stadiums in all the country.
The National Football Team use to play at this stadium and it is also venue of massive musical shows.
The matches of the 1st division tournament are played on Fridays, Saturdays, and most of them on Sundays.

River was founded in 1901 in the neighbourhood of La Boca; in the 20's the club moved its head office many times, until it was established in the border of the neighbourhoods Núñez and Belgrano.
